Seminars are held weekly. These seminars are designed for students who have an interest in Intelligence Studies or wish to pursue positions as intelligence specialists in the military or in civilian life. In addition to providing information on national security issues, the seminars attempt to provide the students with the interdisciplinary skills and tools needed to analyze complex issues and to communicate their ideas orally and in written form. The IC Scholars held weekly seminars every Monday afternoon from 3:00– 4:30 p.m. during the Spring Semester of 2007.
Throughout the month of March, the concentration for the scholars was on systemically developing their oral and written communication skills to better prepare them for research. The scholars will conduct research and will present their findings in a Colloquium.
As part of this preparation process, CAENS Studies arranged for Clark Atlanta's Center for Academic Achievement to conduct a series of four workshops for the IC Scholars. They were:
“Styles of Research,” March 12
“Outlining: Clarifying and Accelerating Understanding,” March 19
“Preparing Effective Oral Presentations,” March 26
“Critical Thinking: Art of Mental Trickery and Manipulation,” April 2.
From April through the end of the Spring Semester, CAENS Studies invited guests from outside the campus to address the scholars. On April 16, John Hicks, former Ambassador to Eritrea and the Assistant Provost for International Affairs at Georgia State University, made a special presentation to the scholars on Globalization. The following week, on April 23, an agent and an analyst from the FBI addressed the group. Then, on April 30, the CIA Southeast Regional Recruiter concluded our sessions for the semester and brought with her a 2002 graduate of CAU who currently works as a Directorate of Intelligence (DI) in the Washington , D.C. area. |
